Cancer Society of Kashmir was established in March, 1999. The overwhelming response
of the people who thronged free consultation cancer clinic voluntarily offered by
a group of doctors with missionary devotion and dedication gave inspiration for
establishment of the Society. It is in this scenario that the establishment of a
broad based Society was felt which besides doctors include people from all walks
of life ranging from Bureaucrats, Academicians, Advocates, Journalists, Writers,
Print and Electronic Media persons to Businessmen. The establishment of the Society
has also become inevitable in view of high incidence of Food-pipe, GIT (Gastro Intestinal
Tract), Breast and Lung Cancers and absolute lack of any NGO providing facilities
pertaining to awareness, with regards to prevention/risk factors responsible for
various forms of cancers besides limited diagnostic and treatment facilities available
in Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science and SMHS Hospital Srinagar.
The Logo/Emblem of Cancer Society of Kashmir has a background of Chinar leaf, as
it is native to Kashmir, bearing green colour signifying life. Over the leaf is
designed a Scorpion coloured in black with sword in red colour stabbed amidst it.
The Registered Office of the Society is situated in the State of Jammu & Kashmir,
present address of the Society is: 4-Bagh-i-Islam Colony, Lal Nagar Chanapora-190015
Kashmir, J&K.
