On the eve of National Cancer Awareness Day Cancer Society of Kashmir, Organised One-day Awareness Programme on 08th November 2024 (Friday) about Awareness, Prevention & detection of various types of Cancers in collaboration with Islamia College of Science & Commerce, Srinagar.
The session was presided by Principal, Islamia College of Science & Commerce Prof. (Dr.) Tehmina Yousuf. In her welcome address, she talked about the role of educational institutions to conduct such type of awareness programmes. She further said, that in future, the institute will provide all support & cooperation for conducting these type of programmes.
Dr. Tariq Abdullah Khawar, EMRC Producer elaborated the fundamental objectives & cause of the Cancer society of Kashmir. He further said, CSK is conducting screening camps at various educational institutions in different parts of the valley throughout the year to aware the students about this disease.
Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Maqbool Lone, Radiation Oncologist, (GENERAL SECRETARY CSK) talked about the myths / misconceptions & Magnitude of Cancer. He also highlighted why is Awareness necessary? He further said that the cancer is not contagious , dreadful disease and is treatable if we detect it early. It’s treatment is available in Kashmir.
Prof. (Dr.) Nisar Ahmad Wani, (ONCO SURGEON) (Treasurer CSK) delivered a brief speech about Risk factors of Cancer. He also elaborated the fundamental objectives & causes of the society. He further said, CSK is conducting screening camps at various educational institutions in different parts of the valley throughout the year to aware the students about this disease.
Prof. (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Khan, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncologist of CSK highlighted and defined Life Style related cancers. “Awareness is the major factor in the early detection of this disease, and he also enlighted how CSK providing possible help to Cancer patients to tackle the different types of Cancers.
Prof. (Dr.) Basheer Ahmed. Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon (Joint Secretary of CSK) in his lecture he described the Precancerous Conditions of Oral Cancer. Precautions & preventive measures for oral cancer.
In this event, hundreds of students participated and later a question answer session was held with faculty members and students of Islamia College of Science & Commerce, Srinagar. They expressed their apprehensions & concerns with the team of doctors and same were answered experts in the line.

It is worth here to mention that such events are being organised by Cancer Society of Kashmir at regular intervals at various educational institutions in order to detect these diseases at the early stage so that it can be treated appropriately.
