October is known as Breast Cancer awareness month

October is known as Breast Cancer awareness month Globally, in this connection Cancer Society of Kashmir, Organised One-day Awareness Programme on 15th October 2024 (Tuesday) about Breast Cancer in collaboration with Government Girls Higher Secondary, Kothi-Bagh Srinagar.

The session was presided by Principal G.G.H.S., Kothi-Bagh Srinagar Ms. Nusrat Bukhari. In her welcome address, she talked about the role of educational institutions to conduct such type of awareness programmes. She further said, that in future, the institute will provide all support & cooperation for conducting these type of programmes.

Prof. (Dr.) Nisar Ahmad Wani, (ONCO SURGEON) elaborated the fundamental objectives & causes of the society. He further said, CSK conducting screening camps at various educational institutions in different parts of the valley throughout the year to aware the students about this disease. Furthermore he delivered an extended speech about the Benign Breast Disease.

Prof. (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Khan, Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncologist of CSK highlighted the presence of cancers in the body. He also talked about the myths and misconceptions about breast cancer. He further said that, the breast cancer is not contagious and treatable if we detect it early.

Dr. Shahida Nasreen, Associate professor, Radiation Oncology SKIMS, highlighted the risk factors of Breast Cancer. “Awareness is the major factor in the early detection of this cancer”, she gave detailed presentation about the importance of Breast self-examination.

In this event, hundreds of students participated and later, a free screening was conducted by Female doctors Dr. Shahida Nasreen & CSK staff Nurse Shafeeqa Bhat.

Furthermore, a question and answer session was held with faculty members and students of G.G.H.S., KOTHI BAGH. They expressed their apprehensions & concerns with the team of doctors.

Prof. (Dr.) Imtiyaz Ali Bhat, Incharge Awareness Programmes CSK proposed the Take away message & vote of thanks was said by the Prof. (Dr.) Akhter Naqueb (Vice Chairman-II CSK).

It is here to mention such events are being organised by Cancer Society of Kashmir at regular intervals at various educational institutions in order to detect this disease at the early stage so that it can be treated appropriately. 

The event was a success.
